*2017 - OREGON SCOTTISH HERITAGE FESTIVAL - CANCELED FOR 2017
The Oregon Scottish Heritage Festival is designed for people of all ages, but especially for young families and youth who want to enjoy a day of good family fun, educational information, and insights into their own possible Celtic connections.

In addition to pipe bands, dances, and Celtic music, the Oregon Scottish Heritage Festival will have a special focus of sharing stories of Scottish heritage. There will be educational and interactive booths that tell the stories of clans, accounts of immigration to America, information on the achievements and contributions of Scottish people to science, education, and the formation of our own country's constitution. The story will be told about the influence of Scottish pioneers in the establishment of Oregon as a state, and the formation of several Oregon cities, including the city of Albany. There will be special opportunity for children to get dressed in Scottish costumes, learn some Gaelic words, do a treasure hunt, participate in highland games, and visit the Queen's Court. Authentic Scottish food will be served at Mary and Sandy's Kitchen. Families and individuals will have an opportunity to explore their Celtic genealogy and heritage. In addition to all this, there will be entertainment by award winning, nationally famous Celtic musicians, the Gothard Sisters, Golden Bough, and a number of other excellent entertainers.

*April m29-30, 2017 - ELK MOUNTAIN HIGHLAND GAMES & MAY DAY FESTIVAL
There’s not many festivals where you can go and watch a cob earth oven-building demo alongside a female roller derby scrimmage. Walk twenty yards and see medieval combat skills in action, an edged weapons competition, and horseback gymnastics known as vaulting. Wander through the artisan Vendor Village and around the colorful twenty-foot May Pole, an ancient spring tradition from cultures around the world, to the front field where strong men and women are competing in Scottish Heavy Athletics, throwing stones and hurling stripped trees. A bluegrass band takes the stage and aerial silk performers are on deck, beside you are giant dancing puppets of trees, birds, and dragons. Welcome to the Elk Mountain Highland Games & May Day Festival, an eclectic event that pulls the past into the present. Did we mention the kids can learn how to flint knap and make rope out of cordage?

The Elk Mountain festival aims to bring together the eclectic elements that make southern Oregon unique and fuse them with historic and modern skills while welcoming the return of spring. Join us for a family friendly event you’ll remember; there’s more than just things to see, there are things to do!
